Wilderness Mind: Dissolving Duality

Hiroko Momii was born in Japan and grew up in the traditional Japanese system: a woman’s place and happiness is in her marriage and children. She came to the United States in 1979, not knowing her deep desire to express herself through art. After her working with silkscreen printing for art studio and herself for a decade, she has dedicated herself to become a painter since 1991.

Momii entered an M.F.A. program in painting and drawing at California State University, Long Beach in 1994. During the program, she found the way to express her inner experiences and visions through an abstract style. She graduated with a Masters Degree in painting and drawing in 1998.

Since then, she has been showing her artworks in both solo and group exhibitions at numerous galleries in Los Angeles, California and Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as in Japan.
